Although Eric Hoffer wrote in the sixties, his observations have remained timeless and spot on for truth. I highly recommend this short, terse book for anyone. His other books are equally fasinating and provide great insights. That Eric Hoffer was a longshoreman who writes well and profoundly is another added benefit for all those who suffer under the delusion that wisdom comes only from an ivory tower. I made this purchase now only because all my copies of Hoffer had been aged, torn, coffee stained and suffered from years in a back pocket and needed replacement. Great Headstart! A real gift for your family!

I don't normally buy follow-up books because I find them to be quite repetitive, however, this one is a true exception.
"Rich Dad" made such an impact with me that I have shared it with many others over the past two years. That said, my wife and I have struggled with how to take what we've learned and pass it on to our children.
This book is it! As we all struggle to ensure our children get the best education possible, we're facing an ironic trend in the school systems where teachers are teaching our children how to pass standardized tests instead of focusing on what children need to thrive in this new century (this is not a knock on that practice - if that's what it takes today, that's what it takes, but our children need more and it's our responsiblity as parents to provide the rest - we cannot rely on our school systems to be the sole educators of our children (sorry for the sermon)). This book was designed to fill in the gaps, to give your kids what they're missing from school - inspiring and practical financial knowledge.
It's not about turning little Johnny into a power stock-broker, but rather awakening his love of learning so that doors will open for him - it's a way of empowering our children by giving them the skills they'll need to succeed in every aspect of their lives.
I can't recommend a book more than I do this one!

Haven't I read this already?

I read Rich Dad Poor Dad. Its a 5-star book. I was hoping for something similar in this one. All this book is is a rehash of the RDPD. It seems the 2 main points of this book are: an apology to his real dad for making him sound like a buffoon and to market his CASHFLOW games. The new material in this book could have been covered in 10 pages. In some examples, he even refers back to his other books for further details. So why read this one?

The Butler & The Chicken

The story has some great art, though the story is pretty standard for a Manga with the cliches everyone is used to seeing in these types of Manga. Despite this, Mayo Chiki!, manages to stand out because of it's main character; who happens to have a good reason to be afraid of woman, unlike many other male leads in this role.

I enjoyed reading this book. It doesn't vary much from traditional anime stories, so nothing groundbreaking here. It does have good artwork and the story is ok. It isn't my favorite, but I will probably get more in this series.

Butlers, Chickens, and cross dressing

Kinjiro wants nothing more than a quiet life, but it is hard when every day you are used as a training dummy by your fight club little sister and martial arts master mother. So much so that he has developed gynophobia and the slightest touch of a girl can give him major nosebleeds. But this changes when he accidentally walks in on the butler to the daughter of the headmaster and discoverd that he - is not a he. This begins his long tortuous journey as he and Konoe must learn to co-exist so that her dream can come true, and maybe he gets over his fears.

I watched the anime and started the manga and I have to say they follow each other fairly well. While nothing original, it still is well written and you can feel the story. I would recommend reading this series, and watching the anime if you have not already.

About the Author

Dr. Graham Scott is currently a lecturer in the Department of Biological Sciences at the university of Hull. He teaches ornithology, ecology and animal behaviour at undergraduate level and has a range of research interests. He is committed to the development of teaching at university level. With a life-long passion for birding he is fascinated by all aspects of ornithology.

At most a "sketch" of what is essential.

First, the paperback is 162 pages, not the 208 claimed . . . it is thin in physical size and thin in content. The illustrations are poorly done, the simplest computer-style graphics--no "real" art. Color photographs are small, ganged together, and clustered in a set of pages far from the references to them. The photographs seem to have been selected from what was available more than how best they illustrate the concept or feature.

Admittedly, at 162 pages, it cannot compare to the primary ornithology texts in the field, but at the price of this small paperback, you would be better advised to purchase the 382 page "Cambridge Encyclopedia of Ornithology (A Cambridge Reference Book)" ($15) and the 352 page Manual of Ornithology: Avian Structure and Function ($30) for the same combined price of this small paperback --more than 700 pages of authoritative information, fine art and photographs for the same price as "Essential Ornithology" which has the content and structure of a $20 paperback at best . . . selling for $45.
