About the Author
R. Doak Bishop is a litigation Partner and a member of King & Spalding s Latin American Practice Group. Mr. Bishop has over 27 years experience focusing on international arbitration and litigation of oil and gas, energy, construction, and environmental disputes. He has developed a national reputation for his experience in international arbitration, serving both as an arbitrator and counsel in large business disputes. Mr. Bishop is Board Certified in Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Mr. Bishop presently serves as Vice Chairman of the Institute of Transnational Arbitration (1990-present) and as a member of the U.S. delegation to the NAFTA Advisory Committee on Private Commercial Disputes. He has previously served as Chairman of the Litigation Section of the State Bar of Texas (1998) and Co-Chair of the American Bar Association International Litigation Committee (1998-1999). His experience in litigation and arbitration includes: international litigation and arbitration; oil & gas and energy disputes; construction disputes; environmental disputes; high technology disputes. Mr. Bishop received his B.A. degree with high honors and departmental distinction from Southern Methodist University in 1973, and his J.D. degree with honors from The University of Texas in 1976 where he served as Research Editor of the Texas Law Review. Edward G. Kehoe is the head of King & Spalding s New York Business Litigation Department, and he co-heads the Firm s International Arbitration Practice with Doak Bishop. Mr. Kehoe received his bachelor s degree in accounting at Lehigh University, and he graduated cum laude from St. John s Law School where he was a member of the St. John s Law Review. He has more than 19 years experience in international business arbitration and litigation, with a focus on energy, professional services liability, construction, pharma, and insurance. He is recognized in Chambers USA for international arbitration, where it states that he drew spontaneous applause from esteemed sources for his sophistication and success in handling a number of sizable matters. According to The Legal 500 publication, clients and peers comment that he is held in very high regard for his international arbitration skills. He was selected by his peers as a New York Super Lawyer, and honored in the Corporate Counsel Magazine as one of the Nation s Top Litigators in business litigation. He is a member of the Panel of Neutrals for the AAA International Centre for Dispute Resolution. I particularly liked the evil Hobgoblin capitol city in Tian Xia

Distant Shores whets the appetite for more, but gives 6 locations on 6 continents a write up, each chock full of adventure ideas and built in conflict. I particularly liked the evil Hobgoblin capitol city in Tian Xia, and Segada the gateway city to Arcadia. The first because it provides a worthy for for the already somewhat detailed Dragon Empires continent, and the later because it literally acts as a gate blocking the interior of the continent, making it a natural site for colonists and explorers looking to go where none have before (from the Inner Sea at least).

Radripal and Ular Kel build upon the scattered lore already seeded in the campaign setting for Vudra and Casmaron, while Aylyosos provides a setting in need of new mythic heroes as their home grown source of them hasn't proven up to the challenge lately.

I was intrigued by Anuli, the most Northern city of Southern Garund, but wasn't as grabbed by how to use a primarily stable city run by empyreal worshiping good and honest folk, especially when their primary foil is the necromantic nation of Geb, but Geb already has Nex set up as their primary allies. I can see adding Anuli to the conflict as a strategic ally for Nex, or safe haven retreating from Nex, but I had been hoping for something more exotic for Southern Garund, after the years of hints that the further south you travel, the weirder things get.

Overall though, this is a great supplement which stretches beyond the more detailed borders of the primary campaign setting.

Great for camping trips if you're out of toilet paper

DO NOT BUY!
This is a pitiful excuse for Prep Material. Never mind the format, which is completely different from the test, I sat and worked AGAINST myself for an hour on the first problem in the book trying to get the answer they did ... only to finally realize the solutions were wrong. I flipped through a few more to find more errors in units, solutions, etc. before I finally threw this book into the recycling bin. I hope it comes back as toilet paper so I can use it more effectively.

Best Advice - Buy the official NCEES Sample Exam, then the PPI Mechanical Engineering Reference Manual and the accompanying materials. They are expensive, but still cheaper than a prep course. Also, some employers will help you if you ask, especially if you hand them over when you're done to start a 'library' for future applicants.

Not a good study aid

I got this sample exam as a part of a PE review course and just took it in preparation for my upcoming test. I did find several math, notation and method errors as I worked through the solutions after taking the test. In most cases I could understand the approach enough to isolate the author's errors, but as a review guide I expect clarity and accuracy in order for it to improve my skills in my weak areas. I did get value out of the exercise of sitting down and taking two 4 hour tests, but that would be true of any sample exam. If I buy another I will look into the NCEES offering.

This book is not totally representative of the NYS PE exam.

This book is not a very good representation of th NYS PE exam as there are a mixture of Imperial and Metric units. Since we use imperial in commercial HVAC, all metric units had to be converted to imperial, worked out, then reconverted to see if you got the right answer. Solution explainations were vague and in a lot of cases, the math was incorrect. The bulk of the problems do not represent everyday engineering scenarios, or are more indicative of once in a career situations. In other words useless. In my opinion, you would be better off purchaseing the six minute solutions book. This is truely compairable to the real PE exam, and the solutions are complete and easy to understand.
